The Pantone Color of the Year 2020 ushers in a new decade in timeless, true-blue fashion — with its Pantone 19-4052, Classic Blue. Chosen for its ability to instill calm and confidence, Pantone’s Classic Blue lays a strong foundation for a new era, according to the Pantone Color Institute, which selects its Color of the Year to highlight the relationship between emerging color trends and the cultural moment.
“When we look at the world around us, we know that we’re living with a lot of unrest,” said Leatrice Eiseman, the institute’s executive director. “Blue, from an emotional, psychological standpoint, has always represented a certain amount of calm and dependability.”
Classic Blue expresses a constancy we can rely on, she said.
According to color psychologists, blue is the color of trust, strength, stability and dependability. This means it has both calming properties that reduce stress and grounding properties that promote productivity:
Hans J. Wegner’s Shell Chair, from our Carl Hansen & Son Collection, is crafted from formed hardwood laminates and upholstered cushions, shown here in a deep blue reminiscent of Pantone’s Classic Blue.
