Baillie Davis is an industrial designer in the Coalesse Design Group in San Francisco who believes design has the power to impact every aspect of our lives. We asked Baillie to share some of her favorite things and sources of inspiration in our latest addition to our My Favorite Things series. Baillie loves taking film photography, mostly of people in candid situations. Most of these images are prints of photographs she took on either her Olympus Pen EE half-frame or her Rollei B-35.
What is your favorite space in the Coalesse Studio?
The kitchen island – the overhead skylight creates beautiful lighting in that area. It is also where we all most often gather.
What is your favorite spot in San Francisco?
Anywhere in Golden Gate Park or at Ocean Beach.
What’s your favorite Halloween costume?
I love dressing up for Halloween – I love any of the costumes that I’ve got to plan and execute with other people.
Left to right (just a SMALL sampling from my life): Rum Tum Tugger & Victoria from the musical CATS, characters from a Dan Deacon music video, Maid Marian & Robin Hood from Disney’s animated Robin Hood.
What is one of your favorite weekend activites?
Camping – it’s good to escape the city once in a while.
Destinations shown: Emigrant Wilderness – Chewing Gum Lake and Henry Coe State Park
What’s your favorite place to eat dinner?
I love ramen! My favorite spot in the city is called Izakaya Sozai.
Shown: homemade ramen and ramen from Noodle Cat (also very delicious) in Cleveland, Ohio
What’s your favorite work tool?
I couldn’t get by without a laptop, and I love sketching on tracing paper.
What’s your favorite item you've helped design?
Though not an individual product, I had a big part in the planning and execution of Neocon 2016 for Coalesse. It was incredible to be a part of that process, to see everything come together.
What’s your favorite place to visit?
I love going home to Pennsylvania. You can’t replace where you came from.
