Home / Walking on Works of Art
You would never walk on a Picasso or place a table on top of a Warhol, but when it comes to the artful ARZU STUDIO HOPE rugs, you are encouraged to do both.
Coalesse is honored to partner with organizations that take pride in both their final product as well as the creation process. ARZU STUDIO HOPE is a partner who highly values the art of rug making.
In addition to artisanship, ARZU, which means “hope” in Dari, is focused on social responsibility and empowering Afghan women by providing fair-labor employment and access to education and healthcare services. ARZU employs approximately 500 individuals, 95% of whom are women, who carefully create every ARZU rug. Learn more about the founding of ARZU.
All ARZU rugs are hand knotted with 100% sheep’s wool on steel looms in the homes of weavers. The wool is hand-dyed with natural materials whenever possible, including madder root for red, walnut husks for brown and pomegranate for yellow.
The production process is time-consuming due to the intricate hand work involved in each piece. Graphing, dyeing, weaving, cutting and finishing are all completed by the hands of well-trained Afghan artisans. We invite you to learn more about the process here. Because colors can vary during the hand dyeing process, and the weave type changes depending on design – each ARZU rug is a unique piece of art.
At Coalesse, we believe carefully crafted items enrich our environments and work experiences. Thoughtfully curated by the Coalesse Design Group, the ARZU STUDIO HOPE Modern Collection of rugs offers a unique way of bringing the comfort of home and the beauty of an artisanal piece to the office.
