Nani Marquina launched her namesake, award-winning brand in Barcelona in 1987. After studying industrial design at the Massana School of Design in Barcelona, she began her career making bespoke textiles. True to herself and sensing the success her designs could reap, she soon created her own business dedicated to the design, creation and distribution of authentic handmade rugs and textile products for the home. Her work has always been centered on making craft traditions contemporary, merging ancient weaving techniques with her own modern, artistic aesthetic.
As a designer, Nani is known as a trailblazer for her approach to color, pattern and innovation in the world of handmade rugs. Her work is modern in styling, while her design inspiration and motifs often have historical roots, reflecting epic tales and narratives. In her partnership with Coalesse, Nani is particularly focused on the influences of the natural world, in both design and in an exclusive color palette collaboration with the Coalesse Design Group.
As a business leader, Nani has always invested special effort in finding the right raw materials and securing sustainable manufacturing processes to create rugs with integrity and positive social impact. To this end, in 1993 Nani embarked on her most daring business adventure, moving her manufacturing facilities to the north of India. Today nanimarquina works with traditional weaving communities in both India and Pakistan. These lands have become a second home for the company, enabling Nani to be part of the end-to-end production process and to better support the artisans that work with her.
