It is customary during the holiday season to send along good wishes and perhaps reflect on the year past. I have a tradition of doing just that in a note to our employees. My note usually points out the accomplishments we, as an organization, achieved, and to look forward to the objectives we have set for ourselves in the coming year. In light of the events of the past year, a note like that seems almost trite and even disconnected from reality.
I do want to look forward and I do want to project a positive vibe. So what can we learn from a world in as much turmoil as the one we inhabit this minute?
Whether it be the war in Syria, the tragedy of Bengazi, the financial calamity that hangs over the world, the gridlock surrounding the fiscal cliff, or finally, the immense sadness emanating from Newtown, it is left to the human race to overcome; to do good; to find sustainable solutions to the most intractable problems facing us. In short, it is a time for leadership, fellowship and love.
Where do we turn to find these human attributes? Toward each other and certainly within ourselves. It is an imperative for we humans to look for the good inside and to project that good where and when we can. It can be done in our homes, our businesses, our communities and networks. It is the mother of all grassroot movements, in other words.
At Coalesse, we are fond of saying that Coalesse is a cause. It is an ambiguous notion in truth, but a few years ago when we were imagining the brand, we challenged ourselves to describe the essence of the brand in one word. That word is inspiration. As we look forward to the coming year we will seek to inspire those we touch through thoughtful premium furniture designs, encouraging words and more sustainable solutions. It is but one way to advance the cause and hopefully bring a bit of goodwill. May 2013 and beyond bring more peace and tranquility. Here's to the best in all of us.
