We had the pleasure of debuting several new products in Chicago this June at NeoCon, North America’s premier contract furniture show.
Greeting visitors at the front door was a new lounge office furniture collection from Patricia Urquiola. Patricia is known around the world for bold, modern shapes and the innovative use of textile and textile processes, and it was a great experience to work with her on this project from concept through final production. Inspired by our observational research about people seeking comfortable and relaxed spaces to get things done, the Hosu convertible lounge chair offers two postures for working — a conventional lounge height, and a fold-out chaise. Patricia was on hand to demonstrate and talk about this new approach to personal workspace, and it seemed everyone who came through the showroom felt compelled to try it out. Hosu also comes in a non-folding and a two-seater version, all available this October.
Smaller but no less impactful was our introduction of Free Stand, a portable worksurface designed for mobile workers. And aren’t we all mobile workers now? Free Stand, designed by Stephan Copeland, took home three NeoCon Awards: Innovation, Editor’s Choice, and a NeoCon Silver Award. Lightweight, height adjustable, and completely foldable, Free Stand supports your laptop or other work, wherever you are, and slides neatly under the sofa when not in use. Stephan’s background in designing complex mechanisms is evident in Free Stand, which packs a lot of functionality in a small, elegant package. Free Stand comes in black or white, and will be available in Spring 2013.
Following on the success of the Bob contemporary office furniture line, designers Luke Pearson and Tom Lloyd introduced the new Lox seating collection. Sleek shells, polished stems, and considered upholstery come together in undeniably modern chairs and stools for cafés and collaboration spaces. The designers nailed it down to every last detail — in fact they even showed up in matching shoes. Now that’s collaboration! The Lox collection is available in October.
We also launched enhancements of our SW_1 lounge and Exponents collaborative furniture collections: large round and square SW_1 tables seating up to 10 people; and Exponents mobile markerboards and media boards incorporating Steelcase media:scape mini, both available in October as well.
