Scott Wilson is the founder and principal designer of Chicago-based MINIMAL. A former Global Creative Director at Nike, Wilson has been a design leader in organizationssuch as IDEO, Thomson Consumer Electronics, Fortune Brands and Motorola. Equal parts visionary designer and serial entrepreneur, Wilson consistently delivers compelling, disruptive yet balanced and thoughtful solutions to market across a wide range of industries.
Founded in 2007, Scott Wilson’s vision for MINIMAL has been to create a hybrid design studio that merges his love of consulting with top global brands, partnering with start-ups, and his intense passion for his own entrepreneurial ventures. Responsible for brand-defining icons and game-changing new product ecosystems for companies like Xbox, Microsoft, Google, Dell, Nike and Coalesse, MINIMAL’s field of play ranges widely from technology, medical and consumer products to lifestyle, furniture and environments.
MINIMAL’s own start-up ventures, such as TikTok+LunaTik, have been equally disruptive. This studio experiment with crowd funding became an instant phenomenon upon launch, raising nearly $1M on Kickstarter and catapulting LUNATIK into a global brand overnight. The success has established LUNATIK as a leader and symbol of this game-changing revolution in product development, one that is empowering designers to see their vision from concept to market.
Wilson’s next generation studio model puts MINIMAL in a unique position in the product development industry. Moreover, the inspiration and virtual mentorship that Wilson continues to provide to creatives and aspiring entrepreneurs around the world sets him apart as one of the few transformative designers working today.
As a result, Wilson’s work has been recognized with over 60 International Design Awards, including the prestigious Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for Product Design (2012). His work has been exhibited internationally in venues such as MoMa, MCA, Cooper-Hewitt’s National Design Triennial and Chicago Art Institute. Wilson has also been featured in countless publications including ID Magazine’s Top 40, TIME Magazine’s Style+Design100, WIRED Magazine and Fast Company’s Masters of Design, where he was named one of their 50 Most Influential Designers in America.
In 2010, Scott partnered with Coalesse to create the NeoCon award-winning SW_1 Collection and the PowerPod.
