Emilia Borgthorsdottir

Emilia Borgthorsdottir graduated from the Art Institute of California, Orange County in 2009 with a B.S. degree in Industrial Design. Since then she has been working in her own studio on diverse projects ranging from CD covers to residential kitchens.

In 2010, Emilia was invited to the Bernhardt Design ICFF Studio at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York, where she exhibited her lounge chair. Her work has also been displayed at the Museum of Design and Applied Art in Iceland. Two key elements in Emilia’s background influence and shape her design. She graduated in 2001 as a physical therapist and worked as a clinician before turning to her design studies. Ergonomic and biomechanical concepts are therefore naturally integrated to all of her projects.

Growing up in Iceland on a volcanic island, she could not escape from being influenced by the beauty and forces of nature. Emilia weaves the ergonomic functionality and nature's aesthetic features together in a practical design.
